"We
have learned of the passing away of Don Wright
with great sadness. The sadness of losing a close
friend, an inspirational musician and a man with
a generosity and concern for others that is second
to none. His support of music education to our
University leaves a permanent reminder of his
great belief in the role of music and the capacity
of the young to change the world for the better."

On
June 29, 2004 the University of Victoria and the Victoria
community celebrated the naming of the Don Wright Music
Education Wing.
Don Wright, Canada’s Jingle King, a musician,
arranger, composer, conductor, producer of radio, television,
and stage, and a philanthropist, donated one million
dollars to music education at the University. Don’s
motto “A Power For Good Forever” is evident
across all of Canada. He has established over 34 scholarships
across the country, supports many charitable causes,
and continues to inspire music educators through his
valuable work.
This
website provides information about the Don Wright Music
Education Wing and other UVic music education initiatives.
It is an honour to share with the community, the inspiration
that Dr. Don Wright gave the University of Victoria.
The pureness of such enthusiasm and desire to help one’s
fellow citizens, as Dr. Wright exhibited, is something
to be embraced and honoured. If each of us could carry
in our hearts the eagerness to help others as Dr. Wright
did, this world would be a kinder place.
