Delivering PRINT

 

1. PRINT DELIVERY
  Print usually involves the combination of two mediaforms, text and images. We can print from all our software programs, but in many cases, we print from Microsoft Word.
 
2. TEXT AND FONTS
  Text is a major element in print delivery. The good designer will understand the basics of typography and be able to access and use a wide variety of fonts. The following websites offer information about the elements of typography, text, and font:

3. FONTS TO INSTALL
  The following websites stock free fonts for PC and Mac. These fonts can be downloaded and then installed on your own computer. Examine the sites and review the variety of fonts available. Try installing a few on your own computer.

4. DELIVERY - INSTALLING IMAGES IN WORD
  You now have the ability to bring jpeg images to your Desktop. We have been doing this using the location and download techniques. Shortly, you will also be creating original jpeg images in Photoshop. Our communication model indicates that the first step in effective communication is to produce an specified image. The next step in the process, however, is to effectively deliver that image.

Images can be delivered through email (as we did last session). Another dynamic delivery method for your images consists of installing images (jpegs) in a Word document. Many of you already know how to do this, but let’s review the method so we can expand our communication model:

Jpegs in a Word document
  ACTIVITY
  In this activity, you will install images in a Word document.
 
a. The first step in this process is to have some jpegs in a folder (some images you may have collected from the Internet)..
b. Now launch Microsoft Word.
c. Make sure you have a new document window open.
d. Make sure you have a new document window open.
e. Go to the TOP MENU BAR - INSERT PICTURE - FROM FILE.
f. A window will open. Locate the jpeg image you want to install. Then click INSERT.
g. The jpeg image will insert itself at the point of the cursor.
h. You can easily size the image inside the Word document, by moving the cursor to one of the corners of the image, clicking and dragging the image to the desired size.
i. Locate and download some images from the Internet. Practise installing images in Word documents. Try integrating your installations with text. Practise this until your can do it easily.
